Fishing Marks in the South Rhins TERALLY -BAY 0/S 126 403. Situated just past the New England Bay Caravan Park, 3 miles north of Drummore on Stranraer to Drummore Road. Park near to the old Coal Store. Terrally Bay has a steep sloping shingle beach with sandy bottom. Many species can be caught here at most state of the tides, although most anglers prefer fishing from low water up. Night fishing is also popular here. Dabs, Plaice, L.S.D.'s, Codling, Whiting, Coalfish and Pollack can be caught here using worm and fish baits, Mackerel have also been caught here spinning during summer months. PORT LOGAN 0/S 105 406. Fishing from Old Pier at Port Logan, cast towards white fish pond building across the Bay, otherwise very weedy and float fishing or rotten bottom would be advisable. Good Pollack, Coalfish and Wrasse, can be caught here during summer months, also some good red cod have been caught here in recent years, weighing up to 12 1bs. PORTGILL 0/S 077 430. Follow the Stranraer to Drummore road and turn right for Port Logan, about 1.5 miles past Logan Botanic Gardens Entrance, take next road on the right hand side, follow road to Port Gill. Park on side of road and walk past farm down to the Bay, where you can fish from the rocks. Main species here are Pollack Wrasse and Coalfish. Worm and Fishbait. Spinning can be productive from here. ARDWELL BAY 0/S 070 450 . On the Stranraer to Drummore road, after Sandhead, turn right at signs for Kirkmadrine Stones or Clachanmore Gallery. Keep on this road past the Gallery until eventually you come to the end of the metalled road continue on down the rough track and you will arrive at the Bay. Situated on the West Coast, the Irish Channel meets Ardwell Bay. where there is a good sandy beach, surrounded by rocks on both sides. A Car Park and Picnic Area provides car parking, and a good brisk walk to the rocks around the Doon Broch area to the left of the Bay can provide good sport with Pollack, Wrasse and also small Conger. Bottom is very rough and rotten bottom is advisable, Float Fishing or Spinning is also good. Sandy Bay is also good for a variety of Fish including Flounder, Plaice, L.S.D's. and Bass. MULL OF GALLOWAY O/S 152 308. The most southerly tip of Scotland provides great sport for many Anglers, there are many Scottish records held here but Anglers are warned to take extreme care, as the paths and rocks can become very slippery. Travel to East Tarbet Bay at Mull of Galloway and at foot of last rise, before the Light House, park at edge of road, and walk across field past Telegraph Pole, follow path on the right to heather clad slope, the path then leads down to the left where there are several good rock seats to fish from. Baits Ragworm, Lugworm & Fish Baits. Mackerel can be caught here in summer, Thornback Rays, Conger. Bullhuss, L.S.D's., Pollack, Wrasse etc. There is a weed bed 20 / 30 yards out from the rocks and grip leads should be used on strong tides. The Mull of Galloway is a working farm and Anglers are warned that fences have been erected to prevent stock losses, and care is required. WEST TARBET BAY O/S 104 309 Permission from the Mull Farm is recommended before going to either East or West Tarbet Bay's. Park on the right just over the cattle grid and walk to the left of the Bay across rocks on to the point. The bottom here is very rocky, but Pollack, Wrasse, Dogfish and Conger can be caught here. |
